N.J. Flower & Garden Show continues through Sunday

By Kathy Turpin | for NJ Advance Media The 16th annual New Jersey Flower & Garden Show welcomed visitors on Thursday to the four day event that continues through Sunday at the New Jersey Convention & Expo Center in Edison. The Garden Club of New Jersey presented this year’s State Flower Show, which is sponsored by The New Jersey Flower and Garden Show by American Consumer Shows. The club, founded in 1925, is a non-for-profit association of over 120 local garden clubs across the state with more than 5000 members, age 6 through adult. This year, the club presented “Magical Moments,” a Standard Flower Show, which is a competition in horticulture and artistic floral designs by specified divisions. Inspired by the overall show theme of “A Magical Adventure,” the Standard Flower Show showcases hundreds of colorful exhibits, judged by nationally accredited judges, displaying New Jersey’s best in floral designs, artistic crafts and horticulture. In addition, there is a Youth section, photography section and educational exhibits. This year’s Standard Flower Show theme is “Magical Moments. Participants entered into the show’s various division competitions, as follows: Design Division I Awards – Award of Design Excellence; Club Competition; Designer’s Choice; Petite; and, Table Artistry. Botanical Arts Division II Awards – Botanical Arts Artistic Craft; Botanical Arts Horticulture; Arts Design; and, Arts Photography.Division III Award – Youth Top Exhibitor Award.Horticulture Division IV Award – Award of Horticulture Excellence.Division V – Educational Exhibit Award. Four rosettes (ribbons) are awarded within the divisions and include: First Place (blue) with a score of 95+; Second Place; Third Place; and, Honorable Mention. In addition, according to Carol English, General Flower Show Chairman, a Second Place Award with a score of 90+ indicates that the entry is close to a blue ribbon award.
